Statement From Melina Carnicelli
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
1st Amendment-1st Vote’s mission is to encourage teens toward thoughtful and meaningful civic engagement by using their voices, talents, and passion as changemakers for community action.
Only ten days after the May 14th Buffalo massacre where an 18-year-old white supremacist gunman used an automatic weapon to murder ten innocent Black people, we are once again dealing with the unthinkable made thinkable at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. As we pause to weep over the repeated mass murder of innocent children and adults in this country, let’s simultaneously express our outrage at America’s legislative inaction. I urge you to contact the US Senate leadership to call-out Senators who consistently vote “no” on effective gun legislation; beg them to follow the US House of Representatives’ lead…beg them to outlaw access to assault weapons, and reduce gun violence via sensible gun safety legislation in this country.
1st Amendment-1st Vote fosters engagement in the US political process. Let your voice be heard. Ask the US Senate to take action today by contacting Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to move gun violence prevention legislation forward immediately! Now’s the moment that WE THE PEOPLE must move our outrage and deep sadness to action over these hideous mass murders.
